Nairobi County is seeking to recover 924 million shillings in alleged liquor licensing arrears from East African Breweries Limited. Chief Officer Lydia Mathia says an internal audit revealed disparities between fees paid by major manufacturers and smaller traders. She insists liquor licensing is a devolved function. However, the Alcoholic Beverage Association of Kenya has obtained court orders suspending the contested measures as the dispute awaits determination through the judicial process.
