Kenya has recorded nine confirmed Ebola cases, including one death, with eight patients receiving treatment in isolation facilities, according to the Ministry of Health’s update as at October 22, 2026.
The update comes 17 days after the country confirmed its first imported case, with health authorities reporting that all 135 identified contacts in Kenya and abroad had been traced.
Four family members and four health workers who cared for the index case are among the patients receiving treatment.
The ministry said 14 samples were tested in the 24 hours preceding the update, with none returning positive results. A total of 461 samples have been tested since the outbreak began in May 2026.
Authorities have also screened 709,093 travellers at the country’s points of entry, including 3,107 in the previous 24 hours, as surveillance efforts continue.
Enhanced surveillance has been extended to health facilities and communities across all 47 counties, with the ministry reporting no evidence of community transmission or transmission linked to quarantine facilities.
Ebola has an incubation period of between two and 21 days. The first contacts are expected to leave quarantine on October 25, subject to the applicable health protocols.
The ministry’s update did not announce any restrictions on travel, trade or public gatherings as authorities continue monitoring the outbreak.
