Some Kenyan families travel hundreds of kilometres in search of specialised cancer care for their children, with one journey in a recent study spanning 981 kilometres. Findings presented by Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital also show that some caregivers move between health facilities while seeking accurate diagnoses and specialist services. Health stakeholders are calling for stronger referral systems to help children reach appropriate care sooner.
