Financial difficulties are forcing some Kenyan families to delay seeking specialised treatment for children with cancer, with transport, diagnostic tests and treatment costs posing major obstacles. Research presented by Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital found that more than 70 per cent of caregivers interviewed earn less than 20,000 shillings a month. Kenya records about 3,000 new childhood cancer cases annually, highlighting the need for affordable and accessible treatment.
