More than 150 companies from over 25 countries are showcasing construction materials and equipment in Nairobi as suppliers seek a share of Kenya’s housing and infrastructure market.

The ninth edition of Big 5 Construct Kenya opened on Wednesday at the Sarit Expo Centre, bringing together local and international firms until October 23.

The exhibition features country pavilions from China, Egypt, Italy, Türkiye and Germany, which is participating for the first time.

Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) president Erick Rutto said the event could attract investment and strengthen local manufacturing.

“Kenya can become a leading hub for innovative construction materials serving the wider African market,” he said, citing the need for consistent policies and stronger international partnerships.

First-time exhibitors include Kohler East Africa, Elite Tools, Henkel Kenya and Kerovit. Other participating firms are showcasing products ranging from construction materials and tools to aluminium profiles, paints and sanitaryware.

The exhibition comes as demand for building materials is supported by housing, commercial property and infrastructure projects.

Organiser dmg events said the forum would give suppliers and buyers an opportunity to explore products and establish business partnerships.

The event has also introduced a sustainability showcase featuring low-emission paints, energy-efficient insulated panels and heating and cooling systems.

Participating brands include ProNature, Herz Middle East, Emirates Industrial Panels and National Paints Factories Co-Qatar.

The showcase comes as Kenya pursues its National Buildings and Construction Decarbonization Roadmap for 2026–2040.

Alongside the exhibition, industry professionals are attending sessions on construction standards, contractual disputes, project risks and business management.

The first day's discussions featured representatives from the National Construction Authority (NCA), the Centre for Science and Technology Innovations and private-sector firms.

Acting NCA chief executive Susan Rutto said the industry needed stronger collaboration, skills development and compliance with building standards to improve the quality and safety of construction projects.

More than 25 professional development sessions are scheduled during the event, including a FIDIC masterclass on Thursday and leadership discussions on Friday.

The exhibition runs daily from 10am to 5pm until October 23. Entry is free for trade and industry professionals aged 21 and above.
