Police have arrested five suspects and recovered cannabis in separate anti-narcotics operations in Busia, Homa Bay, Kitui, Murang’a and Wajir, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has said.

In a statement, the DCI said the arrests followed intelligence-led operations targeting suspected drug trafficking in the five counties.

In Busia, detectives from the National Anti-Narcotics Investigations Bureau (NANIB) arrested a man at the main bus stage as he prepared to board a bus to Nairobi.

A search of his black bag reportedly revealed a bale of cannabis sativa wrapped in yellow cello tape.

He was taken to Busia Police Station for processing pending arraignment, the DCI said.

In Homa Bay, detectives raided a residential house in Rodi Township and recovered 64 rolls of bhang. A man was arrested and remained in custody awaiting arraignment, according to the statement.

In Kitui, a multi-agency team manning a roadblock at Kivandini along the Thika-Garissa Highway intercepted a public service vehicle travelling from Nairobi towards Mwingi.

Officers searching passengers found 325 rolls of cannabis sativa in a packet concealed in a passenger's jacket. He was escorted to Kanyonyoo Police Station.

In Murang’a, officers from Kigumo Police Station acted on a tip-off and searched a silver Toyota Fielder linked to a man in Kangari Township. The search yielded 150 rolls of bhang and assorted rolling papers.

The DCI said the recovered items were secured as exhibits and the vehicle detained as investigations continued.

In Wajir, detectives arrested a man and recovered 10 bales of cannabis sativa. He remained in police custody undergoing processing pending arraignment, the statement said.

The DCI urged members of the public to report suspected criminal activity anonymously through its toll-free number, 0800 722 203, or WhatsApp number 0709 570 000.
