The Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec) has released teacher education assessment and examination results for candidates who sat the tests in 2023 and 2025.

The results cover the Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE), Diploma in Secondary Teacher Education (DSTE) and Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE) examinations administered in 2023.

They also include the Diploma in Teacher Education (DTE), Diploma in Special Needs Education (DSNE) Parts I and II, and Teacher Certificate in Adult Education (TCAE) examinations taken in 2025.

“The candidates who sat these assessments and examinations are advised to obtain the results from their colleges,” Knec said in a notice.

The council added that results for colleges with outstanding assessment and examination fee balances had been withheld pending settlement of the arrears.

“The affected colleges have been notified and advised to clear the balances to facilitate the release of their results,” Knec said.

Teacher education examinations assess candidates preparing to join the teaching profession at different levels, including early childhood, primary, secondary, special needs and adult education.

The TCAE is a two-year course for candidates seeking to teach at adult education centres after completing the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).

The examination is administered to eligible candidates in Kenya by the Ministry of Education’s Directorate of Adult and Continuing Education on behalf of Knec.

The council also administers the Proficiency Certificate in Adult Education examination for candidates who do not qualify for direct entry into the certificate course.

The programme provides a pathway for those seeking to improve their previous grades or qualifications.

The release of the results marks an important step for the candidates, as their performance determines whether they can complete their training and proceed towards registration and employment as teachers.

Candidates seeking registration with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) must meet the applicable professional and academic requirements, including presenting the relevant training qualifications and examination documentation.

The qualifications covered by the results prepare candidates for different teaching specialisations.

The DPTE is designed for primary teacher education, while the DECTE focuses on early childhood education.

The DSTE prepares teachers for secondary education, while the DSNE provides specialised training for teaching learners with special educational needs.

The results also help determine candidates’ next steps in completing their training.

Those who meet the examination requirements can proceed towards qualification, while candidates who fail specific components may need to register for supplementary or repeat examinations, subject to Knec rules.
