President William Ruto. /FILEPresident William Ruto will on Monday commission the Kenya School of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (Tvet) Moiben Campus as he takes his North Rift development tour to Uasin Gishu county.
The 1pm event will highlight the government's investment in technical and vocational training as part of efforts to equip young people with practical skills, improve their employability and address the skills gap in the labour market.
The Kenya Kwanza administration has prioritised Tvet education to expand opportunities for young people beyond traditional academic pathways, strengthen technical skills and prepare trainees for jobs and entrepreneurship in sectors driving economic growth.
The investment also supports the government's broader agenda of linking education and training to industry needs, enabling graduates to acquire practical competencies for employment and self-employment.
After commissioning the campus, Ruto will proceed to Ziwa, where he is scheduled to commission the Ziwa Dam II project and the Sirikwa-Ziwa Machine Road at 3pm.
He will also inspect Ziwa Level 5 Hospital before addressing a public rally in the area, as the tour combines infrastructure development, healthcare and public engagement.
The activities form part of an 11-day development tour covering six North Rift counties: Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot and Baringo.
The President began the tour in Endebess, Trans Nzoia county, on Saturday, October 10.
The visits come ahead of this year's Mashujaa Day celebrations, which will be held on October 20 at Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret.
The national event will mark the culmination of the President's regional engagements, with Uasin Gishu preparing to receive visitors from across the country.
Ruto is scheduled to return to Eldoret City on Saturday, October 17, for the final stretch of development activities in the county before presiding over the national celebrations.
His programme will include commissioning the rehabilitation and desilting of the Kerita Dam water project in Kesses, the Kapseret Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) Market, the Pioneer Affordable Housing Project and the 64 Champions Modern Market.
He is also expected to flag off Last Mile Electricity Connectivity at Pioneer and preside over the issuance of Women Enterprise Fund county cheques before addressing a public rally in Eldoret.
Uasin Gishu leaders have urged Kenyans to travel to the region for the national celebrations, assuring them of adequate accommodation and security arrangements.
Senator Jackson Mandago encouraged visitors to travel early and explore the region's tourism attractions before and after battending the national celebrations.
“As the people of this region, we are very warm. Just in case you miss accommodation, talk to anybody in the street and tell them you want to be around for Mashujaa Day. We shall host you as a region,” Mandago said.
He spoke as the county leadership briefed the media on its preparedness at Eldoret Sports Club on Saturday.
The celebrations will be the first Mashujaa Day event hosted in the North Rift region, giving Uasin Gishu an opportunity to showcase its development projects and tourism potential to the country.
