DAP-Kenya leader Eugene Wamalwa has mourned veteran educationist Hellen Naututu Omoka, describing her as a trailblazer whose contribution to Kenya’s education sector left a lasting legacy.

In a condolence message, Wamalwa extended his sympathies to the party’s Secretary General and former Tongaren MP Eseli Simiyu, following the death of his aunt, Omoka.

He said Omoka’s family had lost a loving mother, aunt and grandmother whose generosity, warmth and kindness would be deeply missed.

“On my own behalf and on behalf of my family and the larger DAP Kenya family, I wish to relay my condolences to SG Hon Eseli on the loss of his aunt Hellen Naututu Omoka,” Wamalwa said.

He described Omoka as an outstanding educationist whose work had left an indelible mark on the country, extending his condolences to the bereaved family.

“May her soul rest in eternal peace,” he said.

Omoka served as principal of Bunyore Girls, Butere Girls and Kericho Teachers Training College during her career in education.

She was the 5th principal of Butere Girls High School, leading the institution from 1974 to 1979.

At Butere Girls, where she served from 1975 to 1979, she oversaw an expansion of the school’s O-level classes from two streams to three, with a fourth introduced in 1977 through fundraising.

The school also expanded its dormitory facilities during her tenure, as enrolment reached about 650 students.

Her leadership at the three institutions formed part of a career in school administration and education that Wamalwa said had earned her a place among the country’s trailblazers in the sector.
