Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has appealed to residents of Mt Kenya to support the Kenya Kwanza administration, saying the government should be judged by its development record.

Speaking in Nyeri Town on Thursday, October 1, 2026, Kindiki urged residents to focus on what leaders have delivered rather than political rhetoric, chants and insults.

“Citizens are keen on delivery, track record and the preservation of the national interest,” Kindiki said during his engagement with Nyeri residents.

Kindiki highlighted ongoing and planned government projects in roads, markets, housing, electricity and education, citing them as evidence of the administration’s development agenda.

He said Nyeri County will soon have a brand-new Ruring’u Stadium, while the Thika-Kenol-Sagana-Karatina-Marua Dual Carriageway will be extended through Nyeri Town to Dedan Kimathi University.

“When President Ruto came here, you told him that the road must pass through Nyeri Town so that Nyeri Town does not die. I am here to announce that, as you asked the President, we have started working on the road from Marua through Nyeri Town to Dedan Kimathi University,” he said.

Kindiki said the Sh324 million Nyeri Modern Market will be completed within three months and accommodate more than 750 traders, while a smaller market will host another 300.

He also cited the Sh877 million Blue Valley Phase One housing project, the Sh1.5 billion Phase Two, a Sh650 million electricity connection programme and several local road projects.

On healthcare, Kindiki said 470,000 Nyeri residents, representing 78 per cent of the county's population, had registered for Taifa Care. He said 33 million Kenyans, equivalent to about 70 per cent of the country's population, had enrolled, placing Nyeri fifth nationally.

Kindiki challenged political leaders seeking support in Mt Kenya to present their development records rather than rely on political rhetoric.

“Every leader who stands on a platform should talk about the work they have done. Every leader seeking a position has been in leadership, and every leader should present their record,” he said.

He said the projects were creating jobs and business opportunities, while urging Mt Kenya communities to remain united.

“My work now is to continue working, to bring our people together and unite everyone. Agikuyu, Aembu, Ameru, we are all one,” he said.

Kindiki pledged to continue pushing for development as Kenya Kwanza seeks to maintain its support in the region ahead of the 2027 General Election.
