Former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju has called on Kenyans to pray for Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, citing the health challenges facing his wife and the demands of his nationwide political campaigns.

Speaking during Sunday Service at St Michael and All Angels ACK Cathedral in Bondo Town, Siaya county, Tuju said Kalonzo continued to travel across the country despite having a wife who had been unwell for some time.

Tuju, who said he had worked with Musyoka during the campaign for the late President Mwai Kibaki, urged the congregation to remember the former Vice-President in their prayers.

“Pray for His Excellency Kalonzo Musyoka. He has his wife who has been unwell for some time, and through all this, he still has the strength to go around the country campaigning,” Tuju said.

He noted the risks associated with extensive political travel, particularly by road and air, citing past accidents involving helicopters and aircraft.

“Our roads are very dangerous, but he is going by road all over. Even our aircraft are very dangerous; people have died in choppers and planes,” he said.

Tuju said Musyoka's nationwide political activities were demanding and asked the congregation to pray for his safety.

“This is not an easy thing. It is a matter of life and death, and I would like you to please remember Honourable Kalonzo Musyoka in your prayers,” he said.

Kalonzo on Wednesday revealed that his wife, Mama Pauline, is recovering from an extended illness that has kept her largely out of public life.

Speaking at Mama Pauline Kalonzo Girls High School in Kyuso, Kitui county, where he presided over the handover of a new school bus to the institution, Kalonzo thanked Kenyans for praying for his wife's recovery.

“My dear wife, Mama Pauline, is also watching. She has not been well, and we are also praying for her to fully recover. I can assure you that when she recovers, because she has been away for quite a while, she will do everything to recover the lost time,” he said.

Kalonzo said he was grateful for the prayers and support his wife had received, adding that he remained hopeful about her full recovery.

“But we thank God, and all the people in this country have been praying for her because God is a God of miracles,” he said.
