Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has questioned the ability of the Linda Mwananchi movement to build strong political structures ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Mudavadi said opposition leaders seeking to challenge President William Ruto must have properly registered political parties and established structures across the country if they want to compete effectively in the elections.

He questioned how emerging political formations would establish a national network with less than a year remaining before the elections.

“Now that ODM has collaborated with President William Ruto, ask them where their structures are because you are depending on ODM's structure; they were depending on that structure,” Mudavadi said.

His remarks come as Linda Mwananchi continues to mobilise supporters across the country and position itself as a major opposition force ahead of the 2027 elections.

The movement, led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and other opposition leaders, held a major rally at Jacaranda Grounds in Nairobi on Sunday.

The rally attracted a large crowd as supporters gathered to listen to leaders associated with the movement.

Mudavadi has previously questioned whether new opposition formations have the grassroots structures that established parties such as the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) had during previous elections.

He argued that building a political party with a national presence requires proper organisation and structures across the country.

The comments add to the growing political debate ahead of the 2027 election, with different political formations seeking to strengthen their influence across the country.

Linda Mwananchi has been conducting political tours in different counties as it seeks to establish a wider national presence ahead of the next election.

The movement’s leaders have continued to present its platform as one focused on the concerns of ordinary Kenyans and have criticised the government over issues including the cost of living and governance.
