The Linda Mwananchi Movement will take its political mobilisation campaign to Kwale county on Saturday, October 31, as it seeks to expand its grassroots support ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna announced the planned rally, marking the movement’s return to major public gatherings after weeks without a large-scale political tour.
The Kwale meeting is expected to build on the movement’s efforts to establish a presence beyond Nairobi and strengthen its networks in different parts of the country.
Sifuna had previously met local leaders, ward and sub-county representatives, and political aspirants during a Coast tour on September 25, as the movement sought to establish local structures ahead of the next general election.
The movement has previously held rallies in Mombasa and Taita Taveta counties as part of its efforts to reach supporters across the country.
The upcoming rally comes as political formations begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 elections, with opposition leaders exploring ways to consolidate their support and coordinate their political activities.
Linda Mwananchi has said it intends to reach all 47 counties before engaging other opposition leaders on a joint political strategy ahead of the elections
The movement’s planned expansion also follows efforts to formalise its political identity and strengthen its organisational structures as it seeks to broaden its reach nationally.
On Tuesday, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua held a meeting with Senator Sifuna and other leaders associated with the Linda Mwananchi movement shortly after returning to Kenya from the United States.
The meeting took place at Gachagua’s Wamunyoro residence in Nyeri County on Tuesday, amid calls by Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala for Sifuna to team up with Gachagua ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Malala has been advocating for a potential Gachagua-Sifuna political alliance, arguing that the two leaders could form a joint ticket to challenge President William Ruto in the next election.
He has also attended Linda Mwananchi meetings in what has been presented as a show of solidarity, with Malala previously indicating that he was representing Gachagua.
Photos of the meeting were later shared on Gachagua’s social media platforms, showing some of his engagements following his return to the country.
Those present included DCP Secretary General John Methu and Malala.
Other leaders at the meeting included former Law Society of Kenya president Faith Odhiambo and Linda Mwananchi head of communication Pauline Njoroge, among others.
Welcoming the delegation to his rural home, Gachagua described the visitors as his cousins and expressed optimism about their gathering.
“Welcome to Wamunyoro residence, my cousins from Linda Mwananchi. When we come together, great things must happen,” Gachagua said.
The meeting comes as political players engage in discussions and realignments ahead of the 2027 General Election.
