Uganda-based Iteso cultural leader His Royal Highness Emorimor(King) Papa Iteso III Paul Sande Emolot has asked the Iteso community in Kenya to support the government and position itself to reap the benefits of being part of the winning team.
Emolot advised the Iteso community in Kenya to work with the government of the day for the benefit of future generations.
He said that the Itesos in Uganda endured a lot of tribulations in the cold before embracing President Yoweri Museveni’s government.
“I am the cultural head of the Iteso in Uganda, Kenya and the Diaspora. We, as Iteso from Uganda, stayed in the bush for many years until religious leaders intervened of an convinced us to come out of the cocoon,” Emolot said.
“The religious leaders told us to join President Museveni's government for the benefit of our children tomorrow. In 2021, we heeded the clergy's call,” he recalled.
He said working with the government has enabled the Iteso in Uganda to secure influential positions in government, including the Vice Presidency, currently held by Jessica Alupo.
Emolot said the same lesson should guide the Iteso community in Kenya, urging the community to work with President Ruto's administration.
He spoke at State Lodge, Eldoret, where he led a delegation of Iteso from Kenya and Uganda in meeting President William Ruto and declare support for his re-election on Saturday.
He said president William Ruto’s acceptance to grace his 4th coronation anniversary was a big gesture and great honour to the Iteso community.
“It is a blessed day for the Iteso community that the Kenyan President has accepted to grace our day, rescheduled for October 31 at Amagoro Comprehensive School grounds,” he said. The event had earlier been slated for October 24.
Tororo South MP Fredrick Angura urged the Iteso in Kenya to support President Ruto's government, saying those who help put a government in place should also benefit from it.
Angura called on the community to deliver votes for President Ruto and subsequently “go to the granary and reap the results”
“I shall be part of the delegation to celebrate Ruto's re-election in 2028,” Angura said.
Emorimor's spouse, Akaliat Juliet Among rai raise concerns over what she described as declining standards of dress among Kenyan women and changes in food preparation.
“Besides the dress code, all foods prepared are fried instead of normal boiling. This message needs to be driven through mobilisation,” the Queen said.
Akaliat also appealed to President Ruto the, First Lady Rachel Ruto to address the worrying trend.
“I need you, Queen, and Kenya's First Lady to reverse this worrying trend. Mother is the voice of the father. Extra senses are lacking in men,” she said.
