In a statement, NTSA said it had exercised its powers to call in the operators after observing issues that raised concerns about the safety of passengers and other road users.
The authority said the affected operators are required to appear before NTSA on September 8, 2026, for further engagement on the safety concerns identified.
“In exercising its powers, the Authority has summoned a number of public service vehicle operators after observing serious safety concerns,” NTSA said.
The operators summoned are Moyale Raha Transporter's Company Limited, Etams Classic Limited, Eastern Link Travellers Company Limited, Manchester Travellers Coach Limited and Lake Naivasha Maii-Mahiu Line Service Limited.
Others are Sabaki Travellers Saving and Credit Co-operative Society Limited, Lumasa County Sacco, Bluemarks Shuttles Sacco Limited and Nyamira Luxury Express Company Limited.
NTSA did not specify the nature of the safety concerns involving each of the nine operators or disclose the specific violations that prompted the summons.
The summons comes as the authority continues to enforce safety standards governing public service vehicles, which carry millions of passengers across the country every day.
PSV operators are required to comply with various regulatory requirements intended to safeguard passengers and other road users, including vehicle safety standards and operational regulations.
The authority's latest action signals increased scrutiny of operators whose services may pose safety risks, particularly as public transport remains a critical component of Kenya's transport system.
NTSA has directed the affected operators to appear before the authority on September 8, where they are expected to respond to the concerns raised against them.
The authority has also provided a channel through which operators and members of the public can seek clarification or support regarding the summons and related PSV regulatory matters.
The summons are part of NTSA's broader mandate to regulate the road transport sector and promote safety among motorists, passengers and other road users.
The authority is empowered to take regulatory action against operators found to have breached safety requirements, including requiring them to explain issues identified during inspections or enforcement operations.
