National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has shared photos from his meeting with Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican, where he attended a General Audience alongside a Kenyan delegation.
Wetang’ula was among faithful and visitors from different parts of the world who gathered at the Vatican on Wednesday for the audience presided over by the pontiff. The occasion gave the Kenyan delegation an opportunity to take part in the international gathering and receive the Pope’s message.
Sharing photos from the Vatican, Wetang’ula described the experience as a meaningful moment centred on peace, hope and service to humanity.
“I had the honour of attending the General Audience at the Vatican, presided over by His Holiness Pope Leo XIV,” Wetang’ula said.
He added that the gathering was more than a formal engagement, describing it as an opportunity for reflection and fellowship among people from different parts of the world.
“This was a moment of reflection, fellowship and goodwill as we joined faithful from across the world to hear the Holy Father’s message of peace, hope and service to humanity,” he said.

Wetang’ula’s Message From The Vatican
The Speaker further reflected on the values he believes brought together the people gathered at the Vatican, highlighting peace, compassion and human dignity.
“The occasion offered an opportunity to reflect on the enduring values that unite humanity, including peace, compassion, dignity and a shared commitment to building a better world,” Wetang’ula stated.
He also reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to strengthening its engagement with the international community and fostering relationships based on dialogue, mutual respect and shared values.

Kenyan Delegation
Wetang’ula was accompanied by Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma, John Bwire, Lydia Haika, Katana Kahindi and Paul Abuor.
Ambassador Rose Sumbeiywo, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Kenya to the Holy See in Rome, was also part of the delegation.
The Vatican audience came as Pope Leo XIV continues his regular General Audiences, with the Vatican confirming that a General Audience was held on August 26, 2026.
For Wetang’ula, the Vatican visit provided an opportunity to combine his parliamentary and international engagements with a moment of reflection alongside a global gathering of the faithful.
