Nairobi County Secretary nominee Dr Michael Waikenda/HANDOUTNairobi County Secretary nominee Dr Michael Waikenda has pledged to overhaul and streamline the county's public service if approved by the County Assembly.
Appearing before the County Assembly vetting panel, Waikenda said his priority would be to harmonise county operations by ensuring accurate employee records, enhancing professionalism, and fostering a collaborative working environment across all departments.
According to the nominee, regular engagement with county staff and senior officials will be key to improving efficiency and accountability.
"I will ensure that I engage employees as well as Chief Officers through weekly meetings so that we can track the performance of all sectors. Work ethics and professionalism remain my top priorities in the County Public Service," Waikenda told the panel.
Waikenda also vowed to confront powerful cartels that he said have continued to frustrate service delivery within the county government.
"I know there are cartels in this city whose business is to drag back service delivery, but I assure you that within my mandate I will act professionally and ensure that everything is done within the law," he said.
The nominee emphasized that restoring efficiency, accountability, and public confidence in county operations would be central to his administration should he assume office.
The Committee on Selection, chaired by Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Kennedy Ng'ondi, is expected to prepare and table its report before the House for consideration.
Upon approval by the Assembly, Waikenda will formally assume office as Nairobi County Secretary.
