Tahmeed Management has officially broken its silence regarding a bedbug infestation reported on one of its vehicles. The response follows a series of videos that distressed passengers shared on social media. The incident involved a bus travelling the popular route from Mombasa to Nairobi.

The Mid-Journey Discovery

The issue came to light when passengers noticed the insects during their journey. In a video recorded on board, a passenger can be heard pointing out the pests to others.

"Ndio hii ingine ndio hii ingine."

The passenger continues to film the seating area, identifying where the insects were seen.

As the footage continues, the passenger expresses frustration at the recurring nature of the problem.

According to reports from social media, the passengers were forced to ask the driver to stop the vehicle after they were attacked by the insects. While some travellers demanded to be taken back to Mombasa, the driver reportedly refused. Instead, the bus was driven to a Tahmeed warehouse located along Mombasa Road, where the vehicle was eventually changed.

Immediate Action Taken

In an official service update, Tahmeed Management confirmed they identified the infestation on bus KCR 615 on 17th July 2026. The company stated they acted immediately to address the situation.

"On 17th July 2026 we identified a bedbug infestation on KCR 615. We acted at once. We moved all passengers to another bus to ensure your safety and comfort,” the statement said.

The company outlined several steps taken to resolve the issue with the specific vehicle involved. They grounded bus KCR 615 and removed all its seats. The entire interior was then thoroughly sprayed and fumigated.

New Policies to Prevent Re-infestation

To prevent similar incidents in the future, Tahmeed has introduced several new operational policies. These changes affect the entire fleet, not just the bus involved in the July incident.

"We stopped carrying used bedding on all routes to prevent re-infestation."

The company also plans to change the physical makeup of their bus interiors.

"We increased fumigation intervals for all our buses, and we will upgrade seat cover materials to types that do not harbor bedbugs. We will also upgrade seat cover materials to types that do not harbor bedbugs,” the management added.

Management noted that the vehicle was only cleared for service after it was confirmed to be completely free of pests.

“We have cleared KCR 615 for service only after confirming it is 100% pest-free.”
