A Kenyan Gen Z man has narrated how his decision to quit a stable plumbing job and pursue forex trading left him struggling financially, forcing him to confront the consequences of chasing what he believed would be an easier path to success.
The young man, identified as Dr Mc and popularly known as the King of Forex, shared his story online, explaining how his life changed after becoming attracted to the possibility of making money from the comfort of his home.
Dr Mc said he completed his plumbing course in 2022 before securing employment at a water company in Nairobi.

His dedication at work earned him a promotion to supervisor, placing him in charge of new plumbers reporting for internships.
At just 21, he was earning approximately $350 (about KSh 45,000) monthly, excluding allowances, an achievement he was initially proud of.
However, his growing interest in forex trading gradually changed his priorities.
How forex trading cost him his job
Dr Mc explained that watching other young people make money through trading convinced him that he could achieve financial freedom without having to work long hours at a regular job.
He became particularly interested after seeing traders showcase their lifestyles online, making him believe he could achieve similar success.
"At the back of my mind, just like any other Gen Z, I wanted easy money that I did not have to sweat hard to make," he explained.
As his interest grew, Dr Mc began spending more time studying trading charts and less time fulfilling his responsibilities at work.
He admitted that he started missing workdays to concentrate on trading, a decision that affected his performance and eventually contributed to his decision to leave employment.
He ultimately quit his job, believing that dedicating himself fully to forex trading would improve his financial situation.
However, things did not turn out as he had expected.
Dr Mc loses savings and becomes homeless.
The former plumber revealed that he eventually lost the money he had saved while attempting to make a living through trading.
His financial difficulties became so severe that he could no longer afford rent, leaving him homeless.
Dr Mc also recounted how desperate his circumstances became, revealing that he sold his phone and resorted to using someone else's device to continue trading.
"Mom called many times; I was off. I had sold even my phone to trade using another person's phone," he recounted.

With his financial stability gone, he found himself taking on construction-site work, describing the experience as particularly difficult because the work sometimes continued late into the night.
For Dr Mc, what began as an attempt to achieve financial freedom instead left him struggling to rebuild his life.
