Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma says his viral address warning of alleged hired goons helped protect his constituents from a planned attack.
Kaluma claimed the alleged hired goons relocated after his address went viral, saying the warning had served its purpose.
“My viral address, which has been twisted, helped relocate most of the hired goons to a hotel where they made their base. My address helped, and I would still make it, if I found them in any of the hotels in Homa Bay Town,” Kaluma said.
Speaking on Tuesday, Kaluma said he had earlier held a public meeting with motorcycle riders to plan an activity before meeting his constituents and warning them of an alleged plot to harm residents.
Kaluma said he urged the residents to remain firm and directed hotels in Homa Bay to keep records of their guests to ensure they did not harbour criminals.
“When I finished, I found my constituents and told them thugs had been booked to harm our people and told them to stand firmly,” he said.
Kaluma said the measures were taken as they prepared to undertake their planned activity, insisting that his priority was protecting his constituents.
Earlier, the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) summoned Kaluma in connection with remarks the commission is examining following a public gathering in Homa Bay County.
In a summons dated August 17, 2026, the commission directed Kaluma to appear before its offices at Britam Towers in Nairobi on Wednesday, August 19, at 10am to assist with ongoing investigations.
According to the NCIC, the remarks were reportedly made on or about August 15 in Homa Bay County and are being examined under the National Cohesion and Integration Act, which mandates the commission to promote national unity and guard against hate speech, negative ethnicity, racism and religious intolerance.
“Pursuant thereto, you are hereby summoned to appear before the Commission situated at Britam Towers, Upper Hill, on the 17th Floor on Wednesday 19th August 2026 at 10:00 AM to assist the Commission with the ongoing investigations.”
The commission said the statements it is examining were reportedly made in Dholuo.
