
Facebook leads global social media engagement, with 56.3% of internet users aged 16 and older using the platform, according to figures from the Digital 2026 Mid-Year Global Update Report tracking usage as of April 2026.
YouTube closely follows in second place at 55.3%, while Instagram and WhatsApp round out the top tier with usage rates of 54.6% and 54.4%, respectively.
A distinct drop occurs after the top four platforms, with Messenger leading the secondary tier at 36.9%.
TikTok follows closely behind with 36.0% of internet users aged 16 and above, while Telegram commands a 32.6% share. Meanwhile, X captures 28.1% of global internet users within the same demographic.
Further down the ranking, WeChat records a 24.8% usage rate, narrowly edging past Pinterest, which stands at 24.7%.
Snapchat holds a 22.3% share among users aged 16 and older, positioning it ahead of LinkedIn at 20.6% and Douyin at 19.4%.
At the lower end of the measured services, iMessage reaches 16.6% of online adults aged 16 and older, while Threads registers a 13.7% share.
