Former nominated Senator Millicent Omanga has shared an emotional handwritten note she received from a schoolgirl during a visit to a Nairobi school.

Omanga was visiting the school as part of her sanitary towel distribution programme when the pupil quietly handed her a folded piece of paper.
The message was not about school supplies or education. Instead, the student used the note to make a personal appeal after losing her uncle during a protest.

The note was addressed directly to Omanga and contained a plea for police to stop shooting innocent people.
“Dear Millicent Omanga, I pray you can do a favour for me. My uncle left us during a protest. Please tell the cops to stop shooting innocent people.”

Omanga shared a photograph of the handwritten message on Facebook on Tuesday, August 11.
She said the note deeply affected her and used the post to call on those in positions of authority to protect civilians.
“A child should be writing about dreams, school and the future, not begging for protection from bullets,” Omanga wrote.
She further appealed to leaders to consider the human impact of violence rather than viewing deaths as statistics.
“To those in power: these are not statistics. These are children, families and innocent lives. Stop the killings. Stop the violence. Protect the people you were entrusted to serve.”
Omanga ended her message by asking how many more innocent voices would have to speak before action was taken.

Omanga’s School Outreach Programme

The incident happened as Omanga continued with her initiative to distribute sanitary towels to schoolgirls in Nairobi.

In July, she launched the Free Omanga Care Sanitary Towels Initiative at Ainsworth Primary School in Kariokor, where she also attended school as a child.
The programme is intended to provide sanitary towels to girls across primary schools in Nairobi's 17 constituencies.
Omanga has said the programme is aimed at helping girls remain in school and reducing challenges associated with period
poverty.
