Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) has clarified the handling of a bullet recovered during the medical treatment of a patient at the facility.

In a statement issued on August 9, 2026, the hospital said the bullet or projectile recovered during medical management was retained and preserved as part of the relevant medical and evidentiary records.

The clarification was issued by Dr Joel Lessan, Senior Director, Clinical Services, at Kenyatta National Hospital.

The clarification follows media reports concerning the bullet recovered during the patient’s treatment.

KNH said the item was handled in line with established procedures governing recovered materials during medical care.

“In accordance with established procedures, such recovered items are handed over to investigating officers through the appropriate judicial and investigative process for further handling and forensic examination,” the hospital said.

The hospital added that the item would be handled through the relevant judicial and investigative processes.

KNH also reaffirmed its commitment to cooperating with authorities involved in the matter.

“KNH remains committed to cooperating with relevant authorities and providing any information or records required through the appropriate channels,” the statement said.

The hospital did not provide further details about the patient or the circumstances under which the bullet was recovered.

The hospital maintained that it would continue providing any information or records required through the appropriate channels as investigations and related processes proceed.
