Silvanus Osoro, the South Mugirango Member of Parliament and National Assembly Majority Whip, has shared a rare look into his private life. In a candid interview on the Lessons at 30 podcast with Dr Ofweneke, the legislator moved away from typical political debates to discuss his family and upbringing.
A Father of Seven
During the interview, Osoro revealed that he is a father of seven children. He has been married for 17 years, having wed in 2009. His wife hails from the "mountain" region of Kenya.
“It’s been 17 years in marriage. I got married in 2009. The good thing with me, it’s just me. I got a girl from the mountain and placed her in my house. That time people had written me off; no uncle, no aunt. But we’ve lived very well,” he said.
Osoro explained that five of his children are from his marriage. However, he also disclosed that he has two other children.
"I have five kids from my marriage four boys and one girl, but I also have some two kids somewhere," he stated. He clarified that his total brood consists of six boys and one girl.
Despite his high-profile role in the government, Osoro is very strict about keeping his family out of the public eye. He mentioned that his wife does not have a social media presence and avoids political appearances. He believes that shielding family is essential for a stable home life.
"Protect your family from your public life," he advised. He added that the institution of marriage is a frequent target for those seeking to create scandals.
Strict Home Traditions
The Majority Whip also shared several personal traditions that he believes have kept his marriage strong for nearly two decades. He told Dr Ofweneke that he avoids sleeping away from his home whenever possible.
"Sleeping at home you don't sleep out if there is no compelling reason," Osoro said.
He also expressed a strong preference for home-cooked meals. "Another tradition is that I don't eat outside," he noted, explaining that he misses home whenever he travels.
Osoro spoke about the peaceful nature of his household. He claimed he has never raised his voice at his wife. "I have never shouted at my wife never beaten her neverever," he said. He described himself as an "alpha male" who makes the primary decisions but noted his wife is his greatest supporter.
Osoro’s current success as a key ally of President William Ruto contrasts sharply with his difficult childhood. According to information not found in the sources, Osoro has often spoken about his rise from poverty, which he touched upon in the podcast.
He lost both of his parents when he was just eight years old. This left him to navigate life as a street boy and a hawker. Before his political career began, he worked as a welder in Kisii.
The MP attributed his resilience to his faith and hard work. He concluded by stating that he protects his family above all else because the world can be a difficult place for those in power.
