Deputy Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service Eliud Lagat has urged police recruits undergoing training at the National Police Service (NPS) Magadi Field Campus to maintain discipline, determination and enthusiasm as they approach graduation.
Lagat made the call during his visit to the campus, where he witnessed battle training demonstrations showcasing the recruits’ practical field skills, coordination and operational preparedness.
“The final stretch is here. Finish with a lot of energy and enthusiasm so that all of us will be proud of you when you pass out next month,” Lagat told the recruits.
The recruits have undergone eight months of intensive training, combining classroom instruction with practical exercises designed to prepare them for the demands of policing and public service.
During the DIG’s visit, the recruits demonstrated field manoeuvres and tactical firearms skills before senior police commanders and directors.
They also competed for the coveted Course Marksman title as part of the practical assessment of skills acquired during their training.
The inspection marked a significant moment for the trainees as they prepare to graduate and begin the next phase of their careers in the Police Service.
It was also the first such inspection at the campus by a Deputy Inspector General, according to the service.
Lagat was accompanied by GSU commandant Johana Langat among other commanders and directors who observed the demonstrations and assessed the preparedness of the recruits.
The battle training demonstrations were designed to showcase the practical capabilities developed during the recruits’ eight-month programme, including teamwork, coordination, discipline and the ability to operate effectively in demanding situations.
The DIG encouraged the recruits to remain focused during the final weeks of training and uphold the standards expected of officers joining the service.
He reminded them that graduation would mark the beginning, rather than the end, of their responsibility to serve and protect Kenyans.
The Magadi Field Campus, which is associated with the General Service Unit (GSU), provides specialised training facilities for police officers, including practical exercises intended to strengthen operational preparedness.
The recruits’ final phase comes as the NPS continues to emphasise professional training and preparedness among officers.
The practical demonstrations offered senior commanders an opportunity to assess how effectively the trainees could translate lessons learned in training into field situations.
With graduation scheduled for next month, the recruits are now entering the final stage of their training before being deployed to serve in different parts of the country.
Lagat urged them to approach the remaining period with the same commitment that has characterised their training.
