Siaya Governor James Orengo being received by ex-CS Aisha Jumwa in Malindi/XSiaya Governor James Orengo has extended an invitation to former Gender Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa to the Linda Mwananchi movement.
This comes barely a day after the ex-Malindi MP announced her exit from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Orengo made the remarks on Friday during a visit to the Coast, where he met Jumwa at Kakuyuni in Malindi.
“Welcome to the Movement, Aisha Jumwa’s (Shangazi Wa Taifa)!” Orengo posted on his social media platforms.
The governor also shared a video showing him and Jumwa engaging in a conversation during his visit.
Jumwa, in a separate post, welcomed Orengo to Malindi.
“Welcome to Malindi, James Orengo,” she posted.
Orengo’s remarks come a day after Jumwa announced that she had quit UDA.
Speaking during a press conference at her Kakuyuni home in Malindi on Thursday, Jumwa said her decision to leave the ruling party followed extensive reflection, prayer and consultations with her supporters.
“After deep reflection, heartfelt prayer and countless consultations with the people I serve, I have made one of the most difficult decisions of my political life. From today, Aisha Jumwa Karisa Katana is no longer a member of the United Democratic Alliance, UDA,” she said.
Jumwa did not, however, announce her next political vehicle or immediately confirm that she had joined Linda Mwananchi.
Orengo's welcome therefore comes as the former Cabinet secretary weighs her next political move, amid increasing activity by political formations seeking to build support ahead of the 2027 general election.
The interaction between the two leaders also comes as Orengo steps up his political activities at the Coast, a region that has increasingly become a key battleground ahead of the next elections.
The Siaya governor has in recent weeks made several visits to the region as Linda Mwananchi seeks to establish a wider national presence.
Earlier this month, Orengo toured Mombasa, including Changamwe, where he interacted with residents and local leaders and held several rallies.
His continued engagements at the coast have been viewed as part of efforts to consolidate support for Linda Mwananchi in the region.
The movement has been positioning itself as a political alternative ahead of the 2027 elections, with leaders seeking to expand its appeal beyond their traditional political bases.
Orengo's latest visit to Malindi and his public welcome to Jumwa could fuel speculation about possible political realignment at the coast following her departure from UDA.
Jumwa remains a notable political figure in the region.
Her decision to leave UDA has raised eyebrows as political parties and movements position themselves ahead of the 2027 polls.
