Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has shared the extreme personal measures he took to transition from a humble teacher to a Member of Parliament. During a candid interview on the Over 1M Podcast with Tony Mwirigi, the legislator explained that his success was the result of a total life overhaul.
Salasya revealed that he chose to eliminate all personal distractions, including romantic relationships and social drinking, to ensure his political victory. This discipline, he suggests, was essential for a young person coming from a humble family background with no initial resources.
The Radical Sacrifice
The first-time MP described his journey to the National Assembly as a difficult struggle. He noted that achieving his goals required an intense focus that left no room for a social life. He told the host that he had to reach a point where he stopped everything to focus on his mission.
"I had to stop all my life and focus on this thing," Salasya said. "I had to stop my love, you ever reach to a point whereby you stop everything,” he added.
The lawmaker elaborated on the specific habits he abandoned to clear his path to power. He insisted that such drastic steps were necessary to maintain his momentum.
"You stop women. You stop alcohol. You stop issues. You focus on the vision."
Salasya is not slowing down. He told Mwirigi that he is now applying the same level of discipline to his future political goals. He currently has his sights set on the presidency.
He explained that he is still laying the foundation for this ambition, which includes building a substantial home to match his status.
"When I started looking for the seat I had to stop everything and focus there," Salasya stated. "And even I still today I I'm still laying the foundation building my home,” he added.
The MP believes that his transformation from a "hustling" teacher to a leader with a V8 engine and a 70-million-shilling mansion serves as an inspiration. He claims his life shows that anyone can achieve greatness through a change in mentality.

Beyond the floor of the House, Salasya has become one of Kenya's most influential digital figures. He uses social media to connect with a massive audience, often blending humour with his political messaging.
Advice to the Youth
Salasya ended the interview by urging young Kenyans to take control of their destinies. He warned that substances like alcohol offer no real solutions to life’s challenges. He believes that young people must make firm decisions for themselves rather than waiting for others to act.
"If you decide that you want to drink alcohol, it will never give you a solution to your life," he said. "The problem that you postpone today... you will solve it in maybe when it's worse."
