TikTok content creator Victoria Erasty Wanjiru, popularly known as Baby Elly, has opened up about how strangers often mistake her for a mother because of her appearance. The content creator shared the experience while appearing on Obinna TV, where she spoke about some of the assumptions people make whenever they meet her in public.

During the interview, one of the show's co-hosts asked Baby Elly whether she was really a "baby girl." Responding with laughter, she said, "I'm just a girl. Unadhani mimi ni mama?" She explained that although many people address her as if she is much older, she still considers herself a young woman and is often surprised by how quickly strangers make assumptions about her.

The interview also touched on the origin of her stage name, with Baby Elly revealing it was inspired by a nickname her former boyfriend gave her. According to the TikToker, he used to call her "Baby Elephant," a name that was eventually shortened to "Baby Elly." Explaining why she raised the issue, Baby Elly narrated that she frequently experiences the situation while using public transport.She said that whenever she boards a matatu, conductors often greet her by saying, "Mama, madam, pesa yako." She admitted that hearing the greeting usually leaves her wondering why people immediately assume she is a mother.
"I'm just a big baby girl," she said, adding that she does not relate to the title despite hearing it regularly.
She further explained that some people openly tell her that because she is plus-size, they automatically assume she is a mother. Recalling such encounters, she said she has heard remarks such as, "Lakini si wewe ni mnono," with people associating her body size with motherhood before getting to know her.

Host Oga Obinna responded by telling her that she had raised a valid point, acknowledging the experience she had shared. The conversation then continued as the panel discussed her encounters and the reactions she receives in public.
