The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has raised concern over the manufacture, distribution, sale and consumption of counterfeit, fake and unsafe alcoholic products across the country.
NACADA says it is closely monitoring heightened public concern and reports shared by members of the public regarding the circulation of illicit alcoholic products.
In collaboration with relevant Government Agencies, NACADA is verifying information shared by Wananchi on various platforms to ensure prompt action by the Multi-Agency teams across the country.
Between 20th and 31st August 2026, the multi-agency teams conducted a 10-day operation across Nairobi County, which NACADA says is disproportionately affected by illicit alcohol and counterfeiting.
The operation covered eight sub-counties: Roysambu, Kasarani, Dagoretti North, Dagoretti South, Starehe, Lang'ata, Embakasi West and Kamukunji.
So far, the operation has resulted in 11 arrests and the confiscation of significant quantities of counterfeit alcoholic beverages.
According to NACADA, the operation also exposed a range of serious compliance concerns involving alcoholic products being sold to consumers.
Among the issues identified were counterfeit KRA excise stamps, uncoded alcoholic products, expired alcoholic beverages and counterfeit products.
NACADA is working closely with the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), National Police Service and other relevant agencies to verify the seized products.
The agencies are also pursuing individuals involved in the manufacture, distribution and sale of counterfeit and illicit alcoholic products, with NACADA stating that offenders will be subjected to due process of the law.
The Authority has clarified that the ongoing enforcement operations are not targeting individual outlets alone.
Instead, NACADA says the operations are intended to disrupt the wider networks involved in the manufacture, distribution and sale of counterfeit and illicit alcoholic products.
The crackdown comes amid heightened public concern over the safety of alcoholic products being sold and consumed in the country, with authorities urging vigilance as investigations and enforcement activities continue.
NACADA remains committed to coordinated enforcement, public education and stakeholder collaboration to safeguard the health and wellbeing of Kenyans.
