A shocking video has gone viral across Kenya this week. It shows a large Toyota Prado repeatedly ramming a much smaller online taxi. The incident occurred outside an entertainment venue in Nairobi's Lavington area.
The footage has sparked public outcry online. It captures the moment the heavy SUV shoves the smaller car out of its path before speeding away from the scene. Both drivers have now shared their versions of the terrifying encounter.
The Taxi Driver’s Account
The driver,Ibrahim, was behind the wheel of the smaller vehicle. He says the confrontation began when he was entering a mall with a client. According to Ibrahim, he met the Prado head-on.
"So nilikuwa na client kuingia kwa mall," Ibrahim explained. "Kukutana na hiyo Prado tukakutana kimbele mbele akaniambia nimsongee. Nikamwambia sawa. Sasa nikijaribu kumsongea tena ananisukumia kwa gari."
Ibrahim claims he tried to move his vehicle. However, he says the other driver became aggressive and started ramming him. He has now been out of work for three days because his car is too damaged to drive.
"Mii tena nikatoroka nyuma bado ananisukumia kwa gari,” Ibrahim added.
A Different Story from the Prado
The driver of the Toyota Prado tells a different story in a phone callconversation with Citizen TV. He claims the online taxi driver was the one blocking the road. He says he and the security guards asked the taxi to move.
"The guy blocked the road," the Prado driver stated. "He insisted we have to wait for him because his client was coming out of the bar."
Witnesses Describe the Clash
Security guards at the scene witnessed the entire drama. They told reporters that the confrontation started after a minor initial scrape.
"Huyu jamaa alikuwa anatoka kule naye alikuwa analeta," one guard noted. "Eh so ile speed alikuwa amekuja nayo na si huyu jamaa alikuwa anaingia so ni kama aliguza huyu jamaa wa uber kidogo hapa mbele."
The guards confirmed seeing a weapon. They described the taxi driver hitting the Prado with a club first.
"So ile hasira alitoa karungu akagongagonga huyu jamaa," the witness added. "Akarudi nyuma akamkonga tena."
Investigation Ongoing
Both men have reported the matter to Muthangari Police Station. Their reports are very different. Ibrahim a "hit and run" while the Prado driver reported "malicious damage" to his car.
The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and the police are now investigating the incident. Despite the viral video, no arrests had been made at the time of the report. All eyes are now on the authorities to take action.
