Kenyan politician and philanthropist Millicent Omanga has publicly declared her support for celebrated boxer Fatuma Zarika ahead of the highly anticipated Vurugu 2 boxing event.
In a post shared on Instagram by both Omanga and comedian-turned-promoter Oga Obinna, the former senator revealed plans to sponsor women from across Nairobi County to attend the event and cheer Zarika on.

Omanga, popularly known as “Mama Miradi”, described the bout as more than just a sporting contest. “I am standing with our champion Fatma Zarika for VURUGU 2,” she wrote. “This isn’t just a fight; it’s about Nairobi women showing up for one of our own.”
According to the senator, she will sponsor 170 women from Nairobi’s 85 wards to attend the event and support Zarika from the arena.

Zarika remains one of Kenya’s most successful boxers and a pioneer in women’s boxing in East Africa.
The Nairobi-born fighter made history in 2016 when she became the first Kenyan woman to win a World Boxing Council (WBC) title after defeating Zambia’s Catherine Phiri.
