Calvince Gaucho, former Bunge la Mwananchi president and current Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital board member, spoke candidly about his nearly decade-long involvement in organised crime, which he left in 2016.
In an interview with Alex Mwakideu, Gaucho described the dangers he faced, noting that few of his associates survived.

According to Gaucho, the gang started with ten members before expanding to 18. However, only four of them are alive today.
“Our gang started as ten people, then we increased to eighteen. Out of those eighteen, only four of us are left; the rest were all killed, shot dead,” he said.

Gaucho said the gang largely avoided night-time robberies, preferring to carry out operations during the day.
According to him, members would gather information about cash movements, businesses, and institutions before striking.
“We were not doing robberies at night; we used to do them during the day,” he recalled.
He alleged that some operations involved insiders who provided information about safes, cash collections, and security routines.
Gaucho further claimed they monitored cash collection schedules and targeted locations after studying movement patterns.
The former activist also spoke about the financial rewards that came with crime, admitting that money was one of the reasons he remained in the criminal world for years.
“I did this for survival. When I was a thief, I had a lot of money. I completely quit stealing in 2016.”
