Kenyan content creator Trizah Mumbi has sparked debate online after questioning why many people in Kenya wear braces for years without seeing major changes, while her own treatment in the United States has shown visible progress within just three months.
In a lengthy video shared online, Trizah opened up about her personal braces journey after getting orthodontic treatment in the US on March 3 this year.

According to her, she initially got braces to correct the spacing between her teeth and an overbite. She said the results have already become noticeable within a short period.
“My teeth are going back well, and the gaps have tremendously improved. I can’t believe the difference in just three months,” she said.

While reflecting on her experience, Trizah questioned why some Kenyans reportedly keep braces for up to 10 years.
She wondered whether some patients were being misled or whether poor-quality materials and irregular orthodontic care could be contributing to the long treatment periods.
“You hear someone saying they’ve had braces for 10 years. Are braces in Kenya for beauty or are people being conned?” she asked.
The influencer noted that in the US, she had been informed her treatment would likely last only one year if progress continued as expected.
Orthodontic experts globally say braces treatment can vary widely depending on the severity of dental issues, patient age, oral hygiene, and consistency in attending adjustment appointments. According to the American Association of Orthodontists, most braces treatments typically last between 18 months and three years, though some complex cases can take longer.

Her remarks quickly triggered reactions from Kenyans online, with many agreeing, disagreeing, or sharing personal experiences with braces treatment.
Some users joked that braces in Kenya had become more of a fashion statement than a medical procedure.
