The CS, who toured several key projects across Wajir town on Thursday, said the works were progressing well and praised contractors and implementing agencies for not only working towards meeting the set deadlines but also ensuring that the required standards are adhered to.

Wajir town has in recent months, witnessed massive infrastructure upgrades as preparations intensify for the national celebrations.

The projects, being implemented by the Kenya Urban Roads Authority, include upgrading selected roads to bitumen standards, rehabilitation of deteriorated roads, and improvement of drainage systems across the town.

CS Chirchir, who was received by Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi, inspected several ongoing projects including the upgrading to bitumen standard of the Furaha Girls–Stadium–Wajir Stadium road and the A2 Manyalo Junction and Stadium Ring Road.

He also toured the upgrading to bitumen standard of access roads leading to the County Commissioner’s residence, affordable housing units, County Police Commander’s offices, Wajir Museum, and other key public facilities.

Among the other projects inspected were the rehabilitation of the Airport Gate–Basabra–Furaha School (A2) Stadium Link Road, capacity enhancement of drainage along the B13 Miyale Road leading to the County Assembly, as well as the upgrading to bitumen standard of the access road to the County Aggregated Industrial Parks (CAIPS) in Wajir.

Speaking during the tour, Governor Abdullahi thanked the CS and the National Government for their continued partnership and commitment to improving infrastructure in the county.

He noted that the ongoing projects are critical in enhancing connectivity, easing the movement of people and goods, and supporting economic activities across Wajir County.

“The visit reflects the close collaboration between the County Government of Wajir and the National Government in delivering development that responds to the needs of our people,” said Governor Abdullahi.

“Through sustained engagement and coordination, we remain focused on ensuring timely implementation of projects that will contribute to the county’s long-term growth and transformation,” he added.

For anyone visiting Wajir years after the advent of devolution, the transformation of the town is remarkable.

Once synonymous with dusty streets, limited infrastructure, and neglect, Wajir today stands out as a shining symbol of growth and progress.

Modern roads, improved public services, expanding businesses, and renewed optimism now define the county’s story.

What was once perceived as a remote and marginalized town has steadily evolved into a vibrant and dignified urban centre — a testament to the impact of devolution and purposeful leadership.

Other major developments underway in the county include the construction of the Wajir International Stadium, expansion of Wajir International Airport, upgrading of municipal roads, installation of street lighting, and the development of a County State Lodge.
