Jubilee Deputy Party Leader Fred Matiang'i has said the opposition fully supports the ongoing demonstrations against rising fuel prices, describing the current cost of fuel as unsustainable for ordinary Kenyans.
Speaking while addressing Jubilee Party delegates at Kiambu Golf Club, Matiang’i said the high cost of fuel had significantly increased the cost of living, leaving many Kenyans struggling to survive.
“The cost of fuel in the country is unsustainable. The cost of living has gone too high and Kenyans are suffering,” Matiang’i said.
He urged the government to listen to wananchi and take immediate action to address the economic crisis facing the country.
“We support the ongoing demonstrations. Something has to be done to lower fuel prices,” he added.
Matiang’i also raised concerns over insecurity, saying cases of theft and pickpocketing were on the rise due to the harsh economic situation.
“The worst is yet to come and something must be done. Church leaders have tried to talk to you (President Ruto), and if you do not want to listen to the opposition, then listen to the church,” he said.
The former Interior Cabinet Secretary further said that the Jubilee Party was ready to work with wananchi and offer alternative leadership focused on addressing the challenges facing the country.
