In a Kenya Gazette Notice dated Friday, May 15, 2026, the Head of State said the re-appointment was made in accordance with Section 12(1)(a) of the Special Economic Zones Authority Act, 2025.

“In exercise of the powers conferred upon me under Section 12 (1) (a) of the Special Economic Zones Authority Act 2025, I re-appoint Fred Muteti to be the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Board of the Special Economic Zones Authority for a period of three years, with effect from May 15, 2026,” the notice reads.

Speaking after his re-appointment, Muteti expressed gratitude to President Ruto for the renewed trust, pledging to continue supporting the government’s development agenda and delivering on its economic transformation goals.

The Special Economic Zones Authority (SEZA) is mandated to attract, facilitate, and retain both local and foreign direct investment within Kenya’s Special Economic Zones (SEZs).

The Authority also regulates public and private SEZs, ensuring a conducive business environment through the development of integrated infrastructure and investor-friendly policies.

SEZA plays a critical role in positioning Kenya as a leading investment destination in Eastern Africa by removing barriers to business and promoting sustainable economic growth.
