Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has hailed his ex-aide Sammy Ngotho for an emphatic win in Saturday's Ol Kalou party primaries.
Ngotho, who is also a former MCA, garnered a total of 12,957 votes, beating his closest rival by almost 8,000 votes.
“Once again, congratulations to you, Sammy Kamau Ngotho and the very best ahead of the July 16th 2026, polls,” he said.
Reacting to the exercise, Gachagua said the contest has demonstrated to the people of Kenya that his party is a free and democratic space for all, and it is the voice of the Kenyan people that they listen to.
“We are committed to open democratic processes, and it is the people who own the party; they make the choice of the leaders they want to be led by,” he said in a statement on Sunday morning.
The ex-DP added, “I most sincerely thank the great people of Ol Kalou for coming out in large numbers to vote for the candidate of their choice. To the thousands of our party members who came out to vote, we thank you for believing in our party, your party of choice and for keeping peace during the entire process.”
The DCP leader also took the opportunity to congratulate all those who took part in the primaries but lost to Ngotho, urging them to join the victor in his campaigns.
“For those who did not make it, you are our true heroes for participating in the contest and agreeing to support the winner. I want to encourage you that your place in the party is secure, and you should take an active role in campaigning for the party’s candidate.”
Gachagua also thanked the National Elections Board for what he called ‘meticulous planning’ that resulted in what is now being labelled as the most well-organised and transparent party nominations since the advent of multi-party democracy in 1992.
“To the Returning Officer, all Presiding Officers, Polling Clerks and the Party Secretary General and his staff for logistical support, you did a commendable job,” he said.
The DCP leaders also hailed security teams from Nyandarua for overseeing the peaceful party primaries, saying police had lived up to their calling.
“Finally, I thank the National Police Service in Nyandarua County for providing security in all polling stations, the tallying centre and patrolling the entire constituency to ensure there was law and order,” he said.
Gachagua added, “The police lived up to their motto of Utumishi Kwa Wote, and I pray this will be replicated on polling day on July 16 2026, and indeed the whole country as we prepare for the General Elections next year.”
