Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi addressing this year’s Labour Day celebrations at Chavakali Boys High School in Vihiga County on Friday/ /HILTON OTENYO Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has expressed satisfaction with the progress of the construction of Kidundu Stadium in Majengo, Vihiga County.
Mudavadi visited the 10,000-seater Stadium in Majengo town to check on the progress of works on Saturday.
The state-of-the-art stadium built to international standards, Mudavadi said, will serve a region with the finest footballers who have put Kenya on the continental map of football in the past.
Vihiga is the home county of the late soccer legend Francis Kadenge.
"I thank the families that agreed to give up ownership of their land for the project. The gesture was patriotic and selfless," said Mudavadi.
He said the families confirmed to him, having already received their payments for the land and are in the process of relocating, which they hope to complete by next week.
"I promised them that their gesture will be remembered in history and their names will be etched in the stadium's books," he said.
PCS said the contractor has promised to complete and hand over the project by April next year.
"During construction, I urge the contractor to look at the sustainability of the stadium, including water harvesting, and the durability of the seats at the stadium," said Mudavadi.
The Stadium will cost an estimated Sh 900,000 million. Kidundu Stadium becomes one of the key flagship projects being implemented by the Kenya Kwanza government in Vihiga County this financial year.
“I have requested the President to consider allocating an additional Sh 100 million to support this project, so that we can have the road from Majengo passing through Kidundu Stadium and joining the Mbale tarmack, thus making this stadium easily accessible,” Mudavadi said.
He said once complete Kidundu stadium will be in a position to host matches that reflect and meet international standards.
“On behalf of the people of Vihiga County, I want to thank the President for turning this dream into a reality. I want to remind my people of Vihiga that those who began the journey to have a modern stadium in Kidundu are no longer with us, but their hope and aspirations are finally coming true,” Mudavadi said.
