The Social Health Authority (SHA) has unveiled an initial list of nine overseas hospitals where Kenyans can seek specialised treatment and access funding of up to Sh500,000 per year.

CEO Dr Mercy Mwangangi said the list will continue to grow. She said the facilities were selected after rigorous due diligence involving regulators, Kenyan missions abroad and the hospitals themselves.

However, she clarified that the list is not closed. “The contracting process is continuous; any provider who meets the requirements can apply and be onboarded,” she said. She noted that SHA has deliberately kept the process open to expand options for patients over time.
