The Senate has issued a significant financial penalty against several county bosses for failing to comply with official oversight procedures.
A total of 11 governors were fined Sh500,000 each after they neglected to appear before the Senate County Public Accounts Committee.
These summonses were intended to have the leaders account for the expenditure of billions in public funds within their respective jurisdictions.
Those affected include Abdi Guyo of Isiolo, Nadhif Jama of Garissa, Muthomi Njuki of Tharaka Nithi, Stephen Sang of Nandi, Susan Kihika of Nakuru and Gladys Wanga of Homa Bay.
Others include Anyang' Nyong'o of Kisumu, Ochilo Ayacko of Migori, Benjamin Cheboi of Baringo, Anne Waiguru of Kirinyaga, and Abdulswamad Nassir of Mombasa.
This collective defiance has been characterised by the committee as a serious breach of their duty to ensure transparency.
