East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Member of
Parliament Falhada Iman speaking to the press./STEPHEN ASTARIKOEast African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Falhada Iman Dekow on Sunday called on relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into a Friday incident in which youth disrupted a football tournament.
The tournament, which saw Banadir beat Celtic FC, was sponsored through her Falde Foundation in collaboration with the Football Kenya Federation.
Trouble started moments after the ceremony concluded at Kunaso Grounds in Waberi Ward, Garissa Township, after the winners had been awarded. A group of youth reportedly attempted to disrupt the event, allegedly demanding handouts.
The EALA MP had to be quickly whisked away as the irate youth attempted to confront her.
Falhada took to her Facebook page to condemn the incident, stating that it was politically instigated.
“I strongly condemn, in the strongest terms possible, the unfortunate and disturbing incident that happened on Friday, March 20 at Kunaso Grounds during the final Eid Cup tournament in Garissa,” read part of her post.
“It is deeply disappointing and unacceptable that an initiative designed to uplift and inspire the youth can be met with intimidation, threats, and attempts to cause chaos. Our young generation deserves opportunities, mentorship, and encouragement—not fear, violence, or political interference,” she added.
The MP said the Falde Foundation has always been committed to supporting and empowering young people by creating programmes that promote sports, leadership, and community development.
She noted that such initiatives are meant to build hope and provide youth with constructive avenues to channel their energy and talent.
“I want to make it clear that I have officially reported this incident at Garissa Police Station, and I trust the relevant authorities will conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that those responsible are held accountable according to the law,” she said.
She, however, stated that despite the acts of intimidation, she would not be discouraged from continuing her work of empowering the youth and serving her community.
“No amount of threats or disruption will stop us from standing for what is right. Our community must reject violence, intimidation, and the politics of chaos. Instead, we must support initiatives that uplift our young generation and build a better and more peaceful future for all,” she concluded.
