ODM party leader Oburu Odinga The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has dismissed as fake a viral publication circulating online that purported to announce a special National Delegates Conference (NDC) with unverified information.
In a statement shared on Thursday, party leader Oburu Odinga distanced himself from the document, stating that neither he nor the party had issued such a notice.
“This publication is fake. As the party leader of ODM, I have not issued any such statement, and no such content has appeared in any newspaper,” Oburu said.
The document in question outlined an agenda for a purported special delegates meeting.
Among the items listed were proposals to create an additional deputy party leader position for Winnie Odinga and to endorse Embakasi East MP Babu Owino as Secretary General.
However, scrutiny of the circulating image has raised questions about its authenticity, including inconsistencies in the publication date.
ODM’s clarification comes at a time of heightened political activity within the party.
The fake notice also referenced internal party changes, including the reinstatement of Saboti MP Caleb Amisi to a leadership position, further contributing to confusion among party supporters and the public.
ODM has in the past relied on formal communication channels, including official statements and verified media publications, to announce major decisions such as delegates conferences and leadership changes.
In February 2026, the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) formally announced plans to hold a National Delegates Convention later in March, aimed at shaping ODM’s strategic direction and preparations for the next general election.
That announcement was communicated through official party structures and reported by credible media outlets.
The emergence of the fake notice highlights concerns over misinformation in Kenya’s political space, particularly on social media, where altered or fabricated documents can spread rapidly.
ODM has urged its members and the public to rely only on verified communication channels when seeking information about party activities.
The party reiterated that any official notices regarding meetings, leadership changes, or policy decisions will be issued through authorised platforms and recognised media outlets.
