Detectives have arrested an inspector who had been sought in connection with the murders of Nairobi lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu and Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso.

The inspector, who had been on the run, was arrested in Eldoret town, Uasin Gishu County, following intelligence that led detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to his whereabouts.

According to the DCI, detectives intercepted him along Uganda Road in Eldoret’s Central Business District as he drove a silver Toyota Fielder.

The vehicle was reportedly being sold by the suspect to raise money for his daily upkeep.

His arrest marks a development in the two murder investigations, with detectives pursuing further leads to establish the circumstances surrounding the killings and determine whether other individuals were involved.

Following his arrest, the inspector was escorted to Eldoret Police Station for processing pending arraignment.

Lawyer Mbobu was shot dead on September 9, 2025, in Karen, Nairobi, along Magadi Road/Karen Road near Galleria Mall.

Dr Mutiso was killed on July 29, 2026, in Upper Hill, Nairobi, along Raila Odinga Way near Kenyatta National Hospital.

The DCI has linked the two killings to a common thread involving property disputes, a bitter divorce and allegedly hired rogue police officers.

However, the investigations are ongoing, with detectives seeking to establish the full circumstances of the killings and any possible involvement of other individuals.

The latest arrest brings into custody a suspect who had remained at large as investigators pursue leads in the two cases.

The DCI said it remained committed to pursuing justice for the victims and their families.

“No rank, status or affiliation places anyone above the law,” the agency said, adding that detectives would continue following every credible lead to ensure those involved were brought before the courts to face charges.

The inspector's arrest does not, on its own, establish guilt. The circumstances surrounding the two killings remain subject to investigation, and any allegations against the suspect would have to be tested through the legal process.
