Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has hit back at President William Ruto over remarks that God was using both of them for different purposes, declaring that his role was to send the President home and push for a change of government in the 2027 General Election.
Kalonzo was responding to remarks made by Ruto in Ukambani on Saturday, where the President said God was using him to deliver development projects while using the Wiper leader to publicise his administration’s achievements.
In a statement following the remarks, Kalonzo said the President had acknowledged that he viewed him as his main political competitor.
“He says I am his main competitor and that I am overworking to show him up. That is the most honest he has been in four years,” Kalonzo said.
“Mr Ruto, God is indeed using me to take you home....”
The exchange followed Ruto’s remarks while commissioning the Sh1.7 billion Mwala Cluster Water Supply Project on Saturday.
Speaking during the event, the President said God was using him to build roads, provide water and organise medical services, while Kalonzo was helping communicate the government’s development achievements to the public.
“God uses me to build roads, to bring water, and to organise medical services; meanwhile, God uses Kalonzo to help me spread the word, to announce that a road has been built or that water has arrived. I don't see anything wrong with that,” Ruto said.
The President also praised Kalonzo for acknowledging completed government projects, contrasting him with other opposition figures whom he said had refused to recognise his administration’s work.
However, Kalonzo turned the remarks into a political response, reiterating his opposition to Ruto and maintaining that his focus remained on securing a change of government in 2027.
The former Vice President also highlighted his recent travel schedule, saying he had undertaken several engagements within three days without using a private jet or public funds.
“Machakos, Mombasa, then London for two keynote addresses, then Rome to meet senior members of the Catholic clergy, then Bondo, all in three days. No private jet, no taxpayers’ money,” he said.
Kalonzo maintained that the political exchanges would not distract him from his agenda, saying he would continue focusing on Kenya’s future and the Ukombozi movement.
“Meanwhile, I shall keep talking about the future of Kenya and the Ukombozi movement,” he said.
The exchange comes amid growing political rivalry ahead of the 2027 General Election, with Ruto defending his administration’s development record while Kalonzo continues to push for a change of government.
