President William Ruto on Monday launched the construction of the 13-kilometre Mundere–Okados–Sio Port–Nangina Road in Budalang’i, Busia county.
The project is aimed at improving transport and boosting economic activity in the region.
The Sh860 million project is expected to link Funyula and Budalang’i constituencies, easing the movement of goods and people while opening up trade opportunities for communities along the route.
Speaking after the launch, Ruto said the government is prioritising infrastructure development to accelerate economic growth and ensure that all parts of the country benefit from national development.
“For many years, Kenya’s development was slowed by leadership that lacked vision. That era is behind us. Today, we are moving the country forward with deliberate investments in critical sectors,” Ruto said.
During the visit, the President also laid the foundation stone for the Budalang’i Modern Market, a Sh130 million project aimed at providing traders with a safe and well-equipped place to conduct business.
The projects form part of the government’s efforts to improve infrastructure and support local economies across the country.
