Kenyan music legend Nameless has taken a moment to honor his late friend and collaborator E-Sir, 23 years after the rapper’s tragic death in a road accident that shook the country’s music industry.
Taking to Instagram, Nameless shared a heartfelt message remembering the bond they shared and the impact E-Sir continues to have on Kenyan music even decades after his passing.
“A friendship and brotherhood that was built on mutual respect and admiration! ESIR!! 23 years, still in our hearts, our minds and our speakers!” Nameless wrote.
E-Sir, whose real name was Issah Mmari Wangui, died in March 2003 following a fatal road accident along the Nairobi–Nakuru highway while returning from a concert in western Kenya. Nameless was also in the car at the time but survived the crash.

The untimely death of E-Sir cut short what many believed would have been one of the most influential careers in Kenyan hip hop. At just 21 years old, he had already made a huge mark on the local music scene with hits that continue to resonate with fans to this day.
Songs like Boomba Train and Hamunitishi cemented E-Sir’s place as one of the pioneers who helped shape the sound of modern Kenyan urban music in the early 2000s.

Over the years, Nameless has consistently kept E-Sir’s memory alive through tributes, performances, and stories about their time together as young artists chasing their dreams.
Even more than two decades later, many Kenyan music lovers still consider E-Sir one of the most talented rappers the country has ever produced.
Nameless’ tribute quickly resonated with fans online, many of whom flooded the comments section with messages remembering the late rapper and celebrating his lasting musical legacy.
Though 23 years have passed since his death, E-Sir’s voice continues to live on through his music, playing in cars, clubs, and homes across the country, just as Nameless described: still in hearts, minds, and speakers.
