Nairobi County Woman Representative Esther Passaris has proposed a unique way to honour the memory of the late Emurua Dikirr MP, Johana Ng’eno.
Speaking during a special parliamentary sitting, Passaris suggested that several housing estates across Kenya should be named after the fallen lawmaker.
The special session was convened to eulogise Ng’eno, who tragically perished in a helicopter crash on March 1, 2026. The news of his passing has sent shockwaves through the political landscape, prompting colleagues to reflect on his contributions to the nation.

A Champion for Housing
Passaris highlighted Ng’eno’s dedicated service as the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Housing Committee. She noted that his leadership was instrumental in driving the government's ambitious housing agenda.
According to Passaris, Ng’eno’s commitment to the committee went beyond mere administrative duties. He was deeply involved in the legislative process, public participation, and the oversight of various projects nationwide.
"He really pushed every button to make sure that we as a committee would work tirelessly to ensure that we put the necessary laws in place, we had the public participation, [and] we oversaw the projects."
The "Johana Ng’eno Estates" Proposal
In her address, Passaris expressed hope that the government would recognise Ng’eno's efforts by immortalising his name within the very sector he championed.
She proposed that new housing developments, currently a major focus for the administration, should bear his name.

"I pray and hope that since he was the first chair for the Housing Committee and housing being such a big agenda for the government, that we would have a few estates in this country that will be named Johana Ng'eno Estates."

The proposal aims to provide a befitting send-off for an MP who, despite a reputation for a short temper, was known for his ability to unite his colleagues.
Passaris fondly recalled his character, noting that any disagreements were quickly forgotten the following day.
Remembering the Man and His Family
Beyond his professional achievements, Passaris spoke of the personal loss felt by Ng’eno’s family. He leaves behind his wife, and three young children, including two daughters.
Passaris extended her condolences to the family on behalf of herself, her own family, and the people of Nairobi. She emphasised the importance of community support during such a difficult time.
"We mourn a great leader and we stand with the family in prayer... we will be there to support the family because that's what good people do for each other."

A Tragic Loss
Johana Ng’eno was a prominent figure in Kenyan politics, serving as the Member of Parliament for Emurua Dikirr. His sudden death in the helicopter crash has led to a series of tributes from across the political divide.
The 2026 crash involved a private helicopter that went down in a remote area in Mosop, Nandi County, claiming the lives of all on board. Investigations into the cause of the accident are currently ongoing.
