Rise in the Early 2000s

Big Pin rose to prominence in the early 2000s after releasing his self-titled track “Big Pin” under Ogopa Deejays, a production house credited with shaping Kenya’s urban sound at the time. Ogopa Deejays also worked with acts such as E-Sir, K-Rupt and Nameless.
Over the years, Big Pin became known for his blend of hip hop, rap and urban music, earning nicknames including “Beast from the East” and “Luo Rap King.” His style contributed to the growth of Kenyan urban music during a period when local acts were gaining increased airplay on radio and television.
