Migori Youth maintained their lead at the top of the National Super League table after holding hosts Mombasa United to a barren draw on Sunday.

It was a game of few chances as the promotion favourites battled it out at Mombasa Sports Club, with Mombasa United dropping points at home for the first time this season.

It was coach Peter Okidi’s first game in charge at the coastal side. He joined the club last week after parting ways with SportPesa League side Shabana FC. Migori Youth lead the log with 65 points from 31 games, while Mombasa United are second on the same points but with an inferior goal difference.

Migori Youth coach Sammy Otulo said he was satisfied with the point away against their closest rivals. “We wanted to win, but the game ended in a stalemate. We take the one point and focus on the remaining games. Our dream of playing in the top-tier league is still on,” said the coach.

Elsewhere, the Michael Olunga Foundation Academy’s (MOFA) promotion hopes were dealt a blow following their 3-3 draw against visiting Talanta at Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Kisumu. The Kisumu-based side has 57 points from 31 games.

Coach Charles Warinda is under pressure to revive the team’s promotion push as the league enters the homestretch. 3K enhanced their chances of promotion after a 3-2 win against bottom-of-the-table Vihiga United at Mumboha Grounds in Vihiga County. The Nicodemus Omasete-coached side has garnered 39 points. Vihiga United, a former FKF Premier League side, are staring at relegation.

They have a paltry 20 points from 31 outings. With seven games to go, Vihiga United, Mwatate United, Mully Children’s Family, and Kabati Youth are all threatened with the drop. Elsewhere, Kibera Black Stars’ slim chances of promotion also suffered a dent after they were held to a barren draw by Gucha Stars at Gems Cambridge School in Karen.
