Kenyan musician and producer Delvin “Savara” Mudigi is marking four years since the release of his debut solo album Savage Level, a project that signaled a new chapter in his career outside the award-winning band Sauti Sol.
Released in 2022, the 14-track album was fully produced by Savara and blended Afrobeat's, R&B, reggae and experimental influences. The project came at a time when members of Sauti Sol were increasingly exploring individual ventures alongside their group work.

A Defining Solo Moment
Savage Level represented Savara’s first full-length solo body of work. Known for his role as a vocalist, drummer and producer within Sauti Sol, he used the album to develop a more personal artistic narrative.
The title, according to Savara during interviews at the time of release, referred to a mindset rather than aggression. He described it as a mentality capable of shaping reality, linking the concept to discipline, growth and self-belief.
“Savage Level is a river with many tributaries,” Savara said during the album’s rollout, explaining that each song represented different phases of his life.
The album drew from his upbringing in Nairobi’s Eastlands area and his experiences performing on international stages. It explored themes including identity, love, ambition and resilience.
Standout Tracks and Influences
Among the songs that attracted attention were:
- Balance
- Reggae Ya Kinyozi
- Fashionista
- In My Heart
The tracks combined rhythmic production with storytelling rooted in personal experiences. During promotional interviews, Savara credited his mother and his long-time partner, Yvonne Endo, as important influences behind the emotional grounding of the album.

The project also demonstrated his technical abilities, as he handled production across all songs, reinforcing his reputation as a multi-instrumentalist and creative director.

Continued Growth in Kenya’s Music Scene
Four years later, Savage Level remains a reference point in Savara’s solo catalogue. Since its release, he has continued to put out new music and collaborate with artists across East Africa and beyond.
Savara, who is Grammy-certified through his work with Sauti Sol, remains active in music production, performance and cultural entrepreneurship.
As he marks the anniversary, Savage Level stands as a documented moment in his artistic journey — a project that captured his transition from collective identity to individual expression while maintaining the sound and perspective that first introduced him to a global audience.
